Welcome to Topochemical Engineering & Biofabrication

Biofabrication is one of most promising sustainable technologies for production of materials, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and many other products for everyday life. Topochemical engineering is a new strategy to enhance biofabrication and to tackle current challenges for a better life quality.

Topochemical engineering

Topochemical engineering is a method of designing the fractionation (disassembly) and fabrication (assembly) of highly engineered functional materials using a combination of molecular and supramolecular techniques. Topochemical engineering is inspired on bioassembly observed in natural systems such trees and microorganisms.

Biofabrication

Biofabrication is a sustainable technology to produce biological polymers and molecules for applications as materials, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other relevant products for everyday life. Biological polymers and molecules can be disassembled from biomass or produced in a bioreactor combined with synthetic biology.

About Topochemical Engineering and Biofabrication

Biofabrication is one of the most promising sustainable technologies for production of materials and chemicals. Topochemical engineering combined with biofabrication can facilitate the creation of new materials and molecules for advanced applications in human health, planet sustainability and better life quality. In this website you will find a combination of my research and education activities in Finland and in Belgium. This research is performed with valuable collaboration of students and post-docs and also with colleagues and friends, thus the information shared here represents collective efforts. My courses are targeted to chemical engineers where the concepts of sustainable processes, biomass engineering and human health  are creatively combined. Collaborative courses are also essential to tackle the challenges and opportunities of multi and interdisciplinarity.
